Rebutall to Bible.ca Mary was not part of the Christian Trinity
First of the stars of by lying
"Thanks to Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches, continuing trend towards the worship of Mary that is in full bloom today, Islam views the worship of Mary as a Bible doctrine. This is not true."
The Quran says.
5:116
[Sahih International]
And [beware the Day] when Allah will say, "O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the people, 'Take me and my mother as deities besides Allah ?'" He will say, "Exalted are You! It was not for me to say that to which I have no right. If I had said it, You would have known it. You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself. Indeed, it is You who is Knower of the unseen.
How does this give him the idea that Islam "views" the worship of Mary as a Bible doctrine, its amazing how this guy [ "Brother Andrew"] came to this conclusion.
He goes further on.
"The Koran represents Christians as worshipping Mary as the third member of the Trinity, when in fact the only ones worshiping Mary, based upon the record of history, were the pagan Arabs who worship her idol in the Kaba AND a small heretic sect of Christians in the Mecca area. Obviously then, Muhammad believed that this sect"
The sect "Brother Andrew" is referring to as "pagan Arabs" are the Collyridians who worshipped Mary as a goddess. But sadly Andrew have not done proper research or he would come a cross a sect called the Mariamites who had a trinity that consists of The Father, the son and the holy spirit.
5:73
They have certainly disbelieved who say, " Allah is the third of three." And there is no god except one God. And if they do not desist from what they are saying, there will surely afflict the disbelievers among them a painful punishment.
In "Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs" we read on sura 5:73
"(They surely disbelieve who say: Lo! Allah is the third of three) this is the claim of the Marqusiyyah; they claim that there is a father, a son and a holy Spirit; (when there is no God) for the dwellers of the heavens and the earth (save the One God) who has no son or partner. (If they desist not from so saying) He says: if the Jews and Christians do not repent of what they are saying (a painful doom will fall on those of them who disbelieve) the pain of which will extend to their hearts."
As we can see Surah 5:73 adresses the claims of the Marqusiyyah.
While 4:171
O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, "Three"; desist - it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.
In "Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs" we read on sura 4:171
"Allah then revealed about the Nestorian Christians of Najran who claimed that Jesus was the son of Allah and that Jesus and the Lord are partners, saying: (O People of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate) do not be extreme (in your religion) for this is not the right course (nor utter aught concerning Allah save the Truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and His word which He conveyed unto Mary) and through His word he became a created being, (and a spirit from Him) and through His command, Jesus became a son without a father. (So believe in Allah and His messengers) all the messengers including Jesus, (and say not “Three”) a son, father and wife. (Cease!) from making such a claim and repent ((it is) better for you!) than such a claim. (Allah is only One God) without a son or partner. (Far is it removed from His Transcendent Majesty that he should have a son. His is all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth) are His servants. (And Allah is sufficient as Defender) as Lord of all created beings and He is witness of what He says about Jesus."
While 4:171 adresses the Nestorian Christians of Najran, and the "Three" in this area was known as Father, Mother and Son what Andrew has failed to understand is that the Quran wasnt a full book written down from day one. The two verses (5:73 and 4:171) adresses different people.
Than Andres mentions some
non-Muslim "scholars" who are just as lost as he is.
Lets mention some Scholars on the Mariamites.
George Sale writes
‘This notion of the divinity of the Virgin Mary was also believed by some at the Council of Nicaea, who said there were two gods besides the Father, viz., Christ and the Virgin Mary, and were thence named Mariamites.’(Preliminary Discourse, Section II, Quran vol.1)
Similarly John William Draper writes;
“…the Marionites regarded the Trinity as consisting of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Virgin Mary; the Collyridians worshiped the Virgin as a divinity, offering her sacrifices of cakes;” (History of the Conflict between Religion and Science, Chapter 3)
Also
Ibn Hazm also mentions a sect Al-Barbarania who believed in Jesus (PBUH) and his Mother as God. (Al-Milal wal-Nahl 1/27)
